PRK (photorefractive keratectomy) was invented in '80s and approved by FDA in 1995. However, the procedure was practiced widely a year before FDA approve. PRK perform by using excimer laser to reshape the cornea by ablate very small pieces of tissue. Once the irregular shape of cornea has been correct, patient eye will focus more effective and see the image more clearly.
